Government of India bans import, breeding, and sale of dangerous dog breeds. View Banned Dogs List.

The government of India has implemented a ban on the import, breeding, and commercial sale of certain ‘aggressive’ dog breeds, including Rottweilers, Pitbulls, Terriers, Wolf dogs, and Mastiffs. This decision stems from advice provided by experts and animal welfare organizations, in response to a directive from the Delhi High Court. Furthermore, the government has urged states to sterilize existing pets belonging to these breeds.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has communicated to all states, requesting that regional authorities avoid granting licenses or permits for the commerce and reproduction of these particular dogs
